How can I dress to flatter an hourglass shape with big calves?

Resolved Question

How can I dress to flatter an hourglass shape with big calves?

I'm tired of always wearing trousers. I've been told that A-line skirts are the answer for my calves, but I don't know how to work them to flatter the hourglass shape of the rest of my body. I'm 5ft 9 and a UK 12.

Thanks in advance!

There are several things you can do (sorry if some are the same as other answers):
- dark ankle-length tights (no patterns eg lace, as they will accentuate the leg)
- always accentuate the waist- you have a very womanly figure
- long, flowing maxi dress or skirts will also hide the calves if you are comfy wearing them- just remember to belt the waist
- I know you said you are tired of wearing trousers but what about trousers with a tunic top (has to end just above crotch) which will also slim your hips
- wear opaque stockings
- don't wear ankle straps or pointy shoes
- jackets that cinch in the waist
- knee-length boots are great, wear with an a-line skirt just on knee length
- a full skirt on a dress will also suit you, as your calves will appear diminished, as long as the dress cinches the waist (have I said that too often?? lol)
- bootcut jeans suit your shape best
- accentuate up top- wear big necklaces and earrings, and eye catching details such as ruffles or sequins to draw the eye up and away from your calves.
hope this is a help and good luck =)

  • The top half has to balance with the bottom half. Use wide belt round the middle to accentuate waist. Jackets with nipped in waist. Longer length skirts with boots would look great.

Wear open-necked shirts with statement necklace.

If you have big calves don't wear shoes with narrow stiletto heels as it will make calves look even heavier.
  • this dress would really flatter your figure: http://www.pretaportobello.com/Onlinepro… just think of the 40s and 50s (which fashion is still huge, even now) the women then were more curvaceous and hence the styles were made to flatter that hourglass shape. if you wear these type of designs then you can't go wrong :-)
  • too slim your calves, wear dark tights- they make legs look a lot slimmer, definitely not any white, it makes you look a lot larger. and wear things that are fitted but not too tight becasue that accentuates every curve and part of your body you might not want everyone too see!
  • try a skirt which is fairly fitted, but flutes out at the bottom...it will enphasis your shape but draw attention away from your legs as the bottom of the skirt will not be sitting close to your calves. also stretchy legged boots are a godsend for large calves. they hide a multiple of sins!
  • A line skirts would be nice. Avoid shoes with ankles straps - they're unflattering on calves. you're tall so i'm sure you don't want to wear really high heels all the time, but 2 inches and good posture makes a huge difference.
